Hi, I’m Kirsty Harper.
I devoted much of my time as a teenager, before school, in the evenings and at the weekends, training for my club, Haslemere. Most weekends were spent taking part in galas around the region. I was lucky enough to represent Surrey and won many medals along the way as well as holding a number of club records.
One thing I have ensured is that my children are learning to swim as I really feel it’s so important that they know how to swim well, not necessarily to club level, but it could save their lives one day.
After 20 years of working in an office, mainly specialising in marketing, I decided to follow my passion and teach others to swim. I regularly undertake continuous professional development (CPDs) to enhance my knowledge and to keep me up-to-date with current practice. The latest training I’ve done includes snorkelling, mermaid swimming and antenatal & postnatal aqua yoga.
My new favourite thing to do is outdoor swimming. I can often be found swimming in a lake. In 2019, for the first time, I have been winter swimming in Beckenham Place Park. And I love it!
